Dear Friends,

I love America! I get goose bumps when I see our flag flying in the wind. I feel so blessed to live in a country where freedom is our right. We have traveled to many countries that do not enjoy the natural freedoms that we as Americans are given. Yet, within all humankind, regardless of where they live, there is the gift of freedom to be the unique expression of the Creator. Many have more understanding and acceptance of this that we do in our country.

Consider these thoughts on freedom from various teachings:

Liberty is the soul's right to breathe. Henry Ward Beecher, Proverbs from Plymouth Pulpit

The gift of freedom implies the danger of servitude. Paul Tillich, The Eternal NowiAgnosticism - I am not so much for the freedom of religion as I am for the religion of freedom. - Robert C. Ingersoll

Buddhism - The fundamental aim of Buddhism is to attain emancipation from all bondage arising from the duality of birth and death. Masao Abe, "God, Emptiness, and the True Self"

Christianity - Stand fast...in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage" Galatians 5:1

Hinduism - By knowing God one is released from all fetters. Upanishads, Svetasvatra

Judaism - It is dangerous to take human freedom for granted, to regard it as a prerogative rather than as an obligation, as an ultimate fact rather than as an ultimate goal. It is the beginning of wisdom to be amazed at the fact of our being free. Abraham Joshua Heschel, The Insecurity of Freedom

In celebrating the freedom of others by honoring their unique beliefs, we truly celebrate our own freedom in a manner that allows each of us to claim and live our Truth in exceptional ways.

In love and laughter,

Rev. Carol

Sunday Morning Youth Ed Classes - Sunday Mornings

Youth and Family Ministries at Unity Church in Grapevine is dedicated to the spiritual blossoming of this world's most precious resource - the children. We offer Sunday morning and Wednesday evening classes for all age groups, infant through high school. We strive to provide a love-filled, supportive environment in which your child can grow and learn spiritually.

Sunday mornings, children and youth classes meet at 10:00 AM during the Adult services.

Our classrooms are divided into the following ages: Infants, One's-Two's, Three's, Fours-Kindergarten, Grades 1&2, Grades 3&4, Grades 5&6, Grades 7&8 (Uniteens), and Grades 9-12 (Youth of Unity or Y.O.U.).

For the first 15 minutes of class (Toddlers-Grade 6) we meet in the multi-purpose room for music and sharing. Children then go to their age-level classes for prayer, affirmation, meditation, story-telling, music, and creative expression. After class we join the adults in the Sanctuary for a few minutes of sharing our morning experience, the final song, and the Prayer for Protection. Children then return to their classroom to wait for their parents.

Our "Youth Ed Dollar" program was begun to add to our children's enjoyment and is quite popular. After the parents pick up their children, they are free to take them to the Youth Ed store to make their purchases.

Unity Church in Grapevine was incorporated as a non-profit organization May 27, 1983 "for the purposes of religious, charitable, benevolent, scientific and educational religious services and activities..." under the guidelines of the Association of Unity Churches. Rev. Carol Record has served as spiritual leader and minister since the inception of the church.

Unity Church in Grapevine Sunday service is at 10:00 AM with a full youth program during the same hour. Wednesday evening adult classes are held at 7:00 PM with a full youth program offered at the same time. Tuesday adult classes are offered at 11:30 AM for an hour with no youth program. Other classes are held throughout the year with special holiday worship services.

The church offers Dial-A-Prayer for adults and Wonder Word for children. These recordings are accessible 24 hours a day. We also have a bookstore, offering religious books as well as self help and psychology books.

In 1992, the church began a Care Team as an extension of the minister and ministry. Care Team members are trained to carry forth the ministry in a variety of ways. Care Team members have eight months of training with Rev. Carol, including: Leadership, Background of Unity, Communication, Prayer, Hospital Calls and Grief & Crisis. Care Team members are available for prayer after each Sunday service, make hospital calls, follow up calls to those who are ill, grief support for one year following a loss, providing food and transportation as needed and are willing to assist as requested.

Unity Church in Grapevine has a Prison Ministry every Sunday at the Federal Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. For many years we have supported the Aids Outreach Food Pantry and GRACE (Grapevine Relief and Community Exchange).

Additionally, the church has shared its tithes with the following organizations: GRACE, Deaf Action Center, Southlake Lions Club Eyeglass Project, Special Olympics of NETC, Trinity Springs Pavilion Christmas Project, Project Hunger, Tarrant County AIDS Interfaith Network, Southlake Meals on Wheels, Carroll High School Project Graduation, NETC YMCA Capital Fundraiser, SWAK for Abused Women, Southlake Chamber of Commerce Jell-O Slide benefiting Multiple Sclerosis, Association of Unity Churched, Silent Unity, Unity School of Christianity, South Central Unity Church Association, as well as other various organizations assisting the community.

In June 1989, the church received the John Templeton radio Grant in the amount of $5,000. In June 1991, Unity Church in Grapevine received the first $1,500 Voice of Unity Award for excellence in broadcasting. The church has a media ministry which includes cable television spots.

Unity Church in Grapevine is a member of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce. Rev. Carol is a member of the Grapevine Rotary Club, where she served as the first woman President of the Club.

Hughes Road Montessori School is dedicated to helping each child develop within himself the foundational habits, attitudes, skills, appreciation and ideas that are essential for a lifetime of creative learning.

Dr. Maria Montessori stated that Montessori education is "simply an assist to life". The best time to start your child's education is during the early years when most of a child's intelligence and social characteristics are formed. In a Montessori classroom, your child will work in a prepared environment that supports the child's natural developmental stages and individual rhythm of learning.

The overall goal of the Montessori trained director and staff is to provide an environment that will nurture and develop each child's potential as a true individual through an appropriate curriculum, while at the same time providing a peace filled environment reflecting the hearts and minds of our community.

Hughes Road Montessori School offers classes for children from 18 months - 6 years of age. Below are the available program options, with the corresponding tuition listed: PROGRAM OPTIONS Pre-Primary (18 months - 3 years old)2 mornings$215/month3 mornings$255/month4 mornings$295/month Primary (3 years old - 6 years old)3 mornings$235/month4 mornings$275/month 3 full days$365/month4 full days$415/month Morning hours8:30 AM - 11:30 AMFull day hours8:30 AM - 2:30 PM

A non-refundable registration fee of $125.00 is due upon enrollment, with a subsequent re-enrollment fee of $50.00 due each year thereafter.

Classes are held September - May, Monday - Thursday. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

When engaged in well-structured tasks, the child experiences a deep inner satisfaction, which leaves him with an overall positive attitude toward everything concerned with school. Hence, the specific goals for the children who attend Hughes Road Montessori: Develop in each child a positive attitude toward school. Help each child develop self-confidence as an independent learner. Assist each child in building a habit of concentration. Foster in the child an abiding curiosity. Develop habits of initiative and persistence in each child. Foster inner security and a sense of order in the child, ultimately a sense of self-discipline. Help develop the child's sensory- motor skills. Sharpen the child's ability to discriminate and judge. Help the child develop socially. Help develop the child's creative intelligence and imagination.

We invite you to call with any questions or to set up a time to tour the school - 817/488-1008. We hope that you and your child will be with us to experience the excitement of learning in a peace filled environment.

The Tree of Life - Tree of Life

Many have requested means through which Unity Church in Grapevine can be a vehicle to commemorate important people and events in their lives, say thank you to God, our Church or to whomever they desire.
The Tree of Life offers such an opportunity. It is a permanent handcrafted artwork of leaves, acorns, and foundation stones. Miniature plaques are individually mounted for the purpose of giving us each the opportunity to remember significant people, events, dates, achievements, or acts of service that are meaningful in our lives. Each will be engraved as an acknowledgement of whom or what you personally want to recognize and honor.

The Tree of Life provides the financial support that enhances our property and people. It also symbolizes the blooming of our church. Each leaf represents the growth and expansion of Unity Church in Grapevine. Each acorn is a seed that has the potential to become a mighty oak. Foundation stones represent the strength of God's abundant love and our faith in miracles that are manifesting. The successes of our programs are guaranteed by a solid foundation.

The names on our Tree of Life leaves, acorns and foundation stones are precious to all of us because they represent the love we have for one another and our church. It is done until there are more leaves, acorns and stones that will take us forward in our mission of bringing the kingdom of heaven to individual lives, our church and the planet.

The gift is in the giving. As we give, we are certain that the ripple effect of our ministry embodies the power of Jesus‚ statement, "And I, when I am lifted up from earth, will draw all people to myself."

It is indeed the desire of the Unity Church in Grapevine to contribute to the enrichment of each member's personal and spiritual life through the teachings and principles of Unity. Reverend Carol diligently selects Bible passages and topics that serve to make a difference in the lives of all who hear her, whether in church services, the media ministry or the many community organizations to which our church is committed. The ability of our church to extend our ministry by reaching out into the community in so many ways is the result of the many volunteers who give of their time and talents.
The loving dedication of our volunteers is a way of giving back to the church and to God in thankfulness for the many blessings in our lives.
There are a variety of ways that an individual can contribute to the success of our church, while spiritually enriching their own life.

Linda Taylor coordinates and trains the many volunteers needed to manage the Worship Services. Linda also assists volunteers in finding the right place to use their talents with the needs of our growing church. There are opportunities for more than 60 volunteers each week to fulfill the needs of our church. The following areas are volunteer positions that make the total community life of Unity Church in Grapevine a Spiritual Power capable of impacting the planet. Review these opportunities to become involved in the church Family and contact Steve.

Greeters: It is important that attendance at any of our worship services provides a comfortable, friendly atmosphere which brings the individual closer to God in their own personal way. Greeters make sure that every person in attendance feels welcome and comfortable.

Ambassadors: Just as for a first time guest to your home, it is important that our first time guests feel comfortable in our home. Ambassadors help those new to our church find their way around our building, they are available to answer questions, and they also serve as an important source to introduce guests to other members of our family.

Ushers: Ushers assist the worship leaders in making each service a special experience for all who join us. They are here to greet everyone who enters the sanctuary, make sure that they are comfortably seated and that each person can find all the materials and information they need to enjoy the worship experience.

Hosts: Hosts help provide a pleasant atmosphere of fellowship before and after services. This important duty adds to the whole atmosphere that we establish through the worship services.

Prayer Partners: Help establish a well centered spiritual atmosphere throughout the entire building, surrounding grounds and the community.

Video Recording Crew: Our church services are televised on Comcast Cable, on channel 15 each week. This is yet another way of sharing the Unity message with the community. Volunteer to assist with the video taping of each service. This can be an exciting way to contribute your individual talents, as well as an opportunity to become a team member and utilize your creative abilities.

Team Leaders: To ensure that each of these volunteers is in place for each service we empower a leader for each service to make sure that all of the people are working as a team.

Care Team: Provide service to the Spiritual community of Unity Church in Grapevine in many ways. Care Team members are prepared to be with individuals and families in times of crisis and joy. Care Team members provide prayer leadership at Sunday services through the Centering Prayer before services and following the service, Care Team members are in the Prayer Room to support individuals in their prayer needs. Click here for more info on the Care Team.

Wednesday Classes: In addition to all of those who make each Sunday service a special experience, we have Ushers and Hosts that help to make our Wednesday night classes memorable encounters.

Bookstore: The Inner Journey Bookstore provides an opportunity for volunteers on Wednesday evening to assist visitors to the store in make selections from the many books, gifts, tapes and CD's offered.

Newsletter: The monthly Unity Update is filled with news of the activities in and for our congregation. Reverend Carol's message always provides inspiration and the articles from the various groups provide interesting and valuable information. The volunteers who assist with the distribution and mailing process are an integral part of the success of the Newsletter.

Office: We at Unity believe that all of us are blessed with certain talents and skills. It is also our belief that volunteering and offering those skills to our ministry, in any capacity, is a way of giving back to God for all the abundance He has provided in our lives. The administrative staff is appreciative of those who can provide general office skills that range from assisting with mailings, bulletins and record keeping

Building & Grounds: The dreams of our congregation came true 6 years ago with the building of our church complex on Hughes Road. The building was designed with love and consideration of all who attend. Just as important as the pride we feel for the interior of our church, the outward pride is expressed to the surrounding community by the volunteers who maintain our building-inside and out-and the grounds around it. For those with a "green thumb" or "handy-person" skills, this is a welcome place for you to share your God given talents.

Youth Education: At Unity our children are important. Our Youth Ed volunteers are dedicated to teaching Unity principles and providing a loving nurturing environment in which children can learn and grow spiritually. Two adult volunteers are in each class to teach and develop the Unity lessons at a grade appropriate understanding.

Rev. Carol Record (revcarol@flash.net) It is with joy that I welcome this opportunity to tell you about my life and Unity. Some years ago, as a twenty-five year old woman, I found myself in the middle of a divorce and diagnosed with cancer. To me, this was impossible for I was invincible. It was when a minister came to the hospital to "minister to me" that I found myself questioning much of my previous religious teachings. The well meaning minister told me the reason I had cancer was because God did not approve of divorce. Now, not only was I experiencing cancer, I was being judged and punished by God. At that very moment, after asking ... no, telling, the minister to leave, I cried within myself, "there must be something more."

Under the leadership of Rev. Carol, Unity Church in Grapevine received the John Templeton Radio Grant in June of 1989. In 1991 the church was the first recipient of the Voice of Unity Award for excellence in broadcasting. The church also has an outreach ministry at the Federal Medical Center, a medium security Federal Prison, in Fort Worth Texas.

Rev. Carol is active in the community where she served as the first woman President on the Board of Directors for the Grapevine Rotary Club. She is also active in the Chamber of Commerce, Grapevine. Rev. Carol believes in giving to the community as part of the good she has received in her life.

For eight year Rev. Carol was Chaplain at the trinity Springs Pavilion in Fort Worth Texas, the county psychiatric hospital. She also was a motivational speaker for the Greenhouse Spa for several years.

Prior to the ministry, Rev. Carol was Sales Manager of a manufacturing company dealing with oil field servicing companies and the chemical industry. Rev. Carol was a Texas Real Estate Agent and has participated in Toastmaster's International.

Rev. Carol's spiritual journey began when she had cancer. It was through the teachings of Unity that she was able to move through the experience into greater understanding of her life's purpose.

She and her husband, Mike, enjoy traveling, swimming and raising orchids.
